If you are interested in adopting a dog, please complete an online application. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Applications can be found here: Adoption Form All adoptions require a completed application, veterinarian and reference check, interview and a home visit. Living Arrangements SSOMN does not adopt to those living in multi-dwelling units such as apartments or condos. If you rent or are part of a homeowner's association, we require written proof from your landlord or association stating that dogs are allowed with any size/breed restrictions noted. We require our dogs to live indoors and not be primarily confined to an outdoor kennel/run, a tie out or be allowed to roam unattended, outdoors. Invisible fencing is not allowed. Healthcare We require all pets in the home to be up to date on vaccinations, current on heartworm preventative, flea/tick preventative and spayed/neutered. We require a consistent, 2 year history of regular vetting on pets, both past and present. Cats must have, at a minimum, an up-to-date rabies vaccine. Similarly, it is required that all adopted dogs have yearly heartworm testing and stay current on preventatives. Our dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and vaccinated prior to adoption. Sometimes puppies are too young to be spayed/neutered, but are otherwise ready for adoption. In cases like this, the adopters must provide a $100 deposit to SSOMN that will be returned once proof of the spay/neuter is received. The adopters will be responsible for the cost of spaying or neutering. This is required to be done no later than the dog's approximate first birthday and failure to do so will be considered a breach of the adoption contract and SSOMN reserves the right to take the dog back. Adoption Procedures Foster homes have the right of first refusal to adopt their foster dog, but are required to pay the applicable adoption fee.
Upon adoption, adopters will be required to complete a basic obedience course with their new dog. Proof of completion must be provided to SSOMN. Adoption Fee: $500 Professional Training Investment: $250 Any dog who has received professional training will have $250 added to the adoption costs, for a total of $750. This fee will help SSOMN recoup the costs of training so another dog can be sent to training.
Please note that all adoption fees completed using methods other than cash or check will incur a 3% transaction fee. At this time, Venmo and PayPal have suspended the 501c3 "fee free" platform. Instead of increasing adoption fees to cover this cost, we will be maintaining our base adoption fee and attempt to recoup the unanticipated fees with a transaction fee. We want to thank everyone for your continued support! |
